Athletics 2007 -2008 School Year

Philosophy
Athletics and all extracurricular activities are an integral part of the entire educational program at St. John’s College High School.  Athletics and extracurricular activities are necessary for the full development and maturation of the student.  St. John’s has a history of athletic excellence and we are very proud of this outstanding tradition.  We want our teams to work hard, show true sportsmanship, and be the best that they can be.

The participation in athletics at St. John’s must promote enjoyment, good health, moral values, self-discipline, development of physical skills, emotional maturity, a sense of cooperation, and a spirit of competition.  Athletics must be educational and contain desirable learning experiences.

Any coach is first of all, a teacher, and second, a coach.  This means that he/she must profess and display all the attributes and personal qualities that the profession demands.  A coach is a tremendous role model.  Members of his/her team will reflect the ability, behavior, actions, and attitudes of the coach.  Throughout the years, young student- athletes have been affected greatly by their high school coaches.  Let’s make sure that the coaches at St. John’s have nothing but a positive influence on the youngsters on their team.

“Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm.”

Focus for school spirit.

All coaches and athletes have attempted to reach the highest standards set by both themselves and each sport.
