Intellectual Growth

The rigorous academic curriculum and highly-skilled faculty at St. John’s motivate students to lift themselves to levels of great achievement. Students are required to take four years of English and religion, three years of mathematics, science, and social studies, and two years of Spanish or French. Honors and AP courses in every subject area, and a wide variety of electives offer students the opportunity to find courses that interest them as well as prepare them for the college or university setting.

Our state of the art Kimsey Science and Technology Center and Donatelli Art studios, the newest parts of our academic facilities, were both in-use beginning in 2002. These spaces offer students access to cutting-edge technology and have allowed for an increased number of science and creative art electives. In addition, new multimedia classrooms have been designed to meet and exceed today's educational standards.

Caring teachers create a positive learning environment, but also actively participate in the growth of St. John’s students. The Freshman Academic Network, for example, is a program in which faculty act as mentors to incoming students, and was developed to help 9th graders adjust to academic and social challenges that exist as students begin their high school careers. With an average class size of twenty-three and committed teachers, students continue to receive close attention and guidance as they excel at St. John’s.
