Mark Gibbs
Head Coach (St. John’s, 1996)
Second Year
Infielding and Hitting
Mark begins his 2nd year as the Head Coach after spending three years as an assistant. While playing for the Cadets, from 1993-1996, Mark was a three-time All-WCAC performer and two-time First Team All-Met selection. He was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year after his senior year as well as one of the top 100 players in the country by College Sport Magazine. Mark went on to become a four year starter at shortstop for George Mason University and finished in the top ten in hits, games played, hit by pitches and fielding chances. After college, Mark was signed as a free agent by the Baltimore Orioles and spent 3 1/2 years in the system, spending parts of two seasons in Double A. Mark is also a partner with Diamond Skills Baseball, a summer and winter baseball camp company. He currently works in the St. John's Alumni/Development office and lives in Silver Spring, MD with his wife, Mindy and son Matthew.
Ed Gibbs
Assistant Coach (St. Johns, 1967)
Second Year (15th Overall)

The 2008 campaign will be Coach Gibbs’ 2nd as an assistant after spending 14 as the Head Coach. In 1993, Coach Gibbs took control of a program that had gone several years without a winning season. In his first year he guided the Cadets to a 13-12 record. Since then he established St. John’s as a premier high school baseball program, winning 20 or more games in thirteen straight seasons while compiling a 318-78 record. His accomplishments include seven regular season championships, two WCAC Conference Championships (1999, 2005) and two WCAC Coach of the Year selections. He has sent six players into professional baseball, had 11 1st Washington Post All-Metropolitan selections, 7 Gatorade Players of the Year, 5 USA Today Players of the Year, 59 1st Team All-WCAC Selections and sent a staggering 41 players into college baseball. In 2005, the Cadets finished with a 22-3 record, No. 1 in the Washington Post, nationally ranked in four different publications and Coach Gibbs was named Washington Post All- Met Coach of the Year. He currently lives in Rockville, MD.
Pat McNair
Assistant Coach (Gonzaga, 1996)
Fifth Year
Pitching Coach
Coach McNair is in his fifth year as the head pitching coach. He was a two-time All WCAC selection while at Gonzaga High School before heading to the University of Hawaii. Pat played with the Rainbows for two years before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University. After his junior year Pat was a 35th round pick of the Houston Astros and spent three years in their organization getting to High A. Following his professional career Pat spent nine months in San Diego working with the likes of Tom House, Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson. Pat led a the 2007 rotation to a 1.97 team ERA and a 2.88/1 K to BB ratio. For these efforts, he was named the ABCA District 2 Coach of the year. He has also had 3 of his pitchers drafted (Andy Schindling-2004, Ivor Hodgson-2007, Connor Hoehn-2007). Pat currently lives with his wife, Danielle in Alexandria, VA.
Phil Newman
Assistant Coach
Sixth Year
Pitching, Outfielding

Phil is in his sixth year in the St. John’s program. He spent one year as an assistant on the JV and the last four years as a Varsity assistant. Phil pitched collegiately at the University of Maryland and helps with the pitchers and the outfielders. He currently lives in Darnestown, MD with his wife Cathy.
Matt Petersen
Assistant Coach (St. John's, 2003)
First Year
Pitching, Hitting
The 2008 season will mark Matt's return to the St. John's Program as a coach. He was a 2time All-WCAC Selection as well as an 1st Team-All Met Selection while playing for the Cadets from 2000-2003. Matt played baseball collegiately at Salisbury University. He currently lives in Bowie, MD.
Alex Wotring
Assistant Coach (St. John's, 2002)
First Year
Catching

Alex, a 2002 graduate, returns to his alma mater to take over instruction of all the catchers in the program. He was a 2 Time All-WCAC Selection as well as a 2nd Team All-Met Selection while starring for the Cadets from 1999-2002. Alex played collegitely at the University of Richmond and currently lives in Bethesda, MD.
Andrew Lowman
Assistant Coach
First Year
Hitting
The 2008 season will be Andrew's first as a coach in the St. John's baseball program. He is a 1991 graduate of Riverdale Baptist High School and played collegiately at Frostberg State University. He currently lives in North Beach wih his wife Alyssa and son Josh.
Duane Flowers
Head JV Coach
Fifth Year

This will be Duane’s first year as the Head JV Coach after spending 2007 as an assistant at the varsity level. Duane was a standout running back at the Naval Academy before an injury ended his career. He has been highly involved in youth baseball for the past seven years and is also a coach for the DC Cadets, a summer team associated with St. John's.
Travis Chance
Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
Second Year
The 2008 campaign with be Travis's second year in a Cadet uniform. The Greenville, NC native enjoyed a solid career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and will be in charge of the Infielders and Hitters with the JV. He currently lives with his wife, Cameo, in Silver Spring.
Chris Themistos
Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
First Year
Chris joins the baseball program after spending three years in the Girls Softball program. Chris is also an English teacher at St. John's.
Lyndon Watkins
Head Freshman Coach
Second Year
Coach Watkins begins his 3rd year as part of the St. Johns Baseball Program bringing a wealth of knowledge and experiece. He played college baseball at Chicago State University and the University of Tennessee and spent four years in Semi-Professional Baseball. Lyndon has spent the last nine years coaching at Springbrook High School and assisting Cissel Saxon #41 during the summers. He is currently in charge of the Firerarms Section of the Montgomery County Police Department and is the President of the Diamond Dynasty baseball organinzation.
Justin Riggs
Assistant Freshman Coach
Second Year
Justin begins his secon year in the St. John's Baseball Program and will be in charge of Infielding and Hitting on the Freshman Team. Justin was an All-Met at Springbrook and played collegiatly at Coppin State.
