Coaching Staff

Paul DeStefano, Head Coach Coach DeStefano has been coaching in the Washington, DC area for over 30 years.
This year is his 12th at St. John’s. His career record is 491 wins - 357 losses.
He was recognized in 2004 as the Coach of the Year in Washington, D.C. by the National Federation of State High School Associations, and was a finalist for National coach of the year.

While at St. John’s, more than 15 of his players have gone on to play Divison I basketball. Countless others have gone on to the Divison II and III levels.
Three of his former St. John’s players are now playing professionally in the Australian National Basketball League.

In 2000 St. John’s won the WCAC Championship (61-59) over DeMatha - the school's first since 1977. Named 2000 WCAC Coach of the Year. Prior to St. John’s Coach DeStefano coached at Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, MD; Seneca Valley H.S. in Germantown, MD; Bishop Ireton H. S. in Alexandria VA; Mackin H. S. in Washington, DC and Pallotti H. S. in Laurel, MD.

He led Seneca Valley to the 1992 MD 3A Regional Championship.
Bishop Ireton to three consecutive Virginia State Catholic Championships, 1986, 1987, 1988. At Mackin - he coached two players who went on to play professionally in the NBA - Johnny Dawkins (Duke) and Dominic Pressley (Boston College).

Coach DeStefano has been married for 27 years (Chris) and has two children, Brian a assistant coach at Harvard University and Katherine a sophomore at Georgetown University.

James DeStefano
Varsity Assistant
James DeStefano comes to St. John's for his first season with the Cadets. But not his first in basketball. Coach DeStefano's brother, Jimmy has coached at many levels. In High School as an Assistant Coach at Mackin Catholic High School from 1981 to 1984;
and as the Head Coach at Model Secondary School for the Deaf from 1997 to 1999.

At the Collegiate level as an Assistant Coach at Gallaudet University from 1984 to 1987. And as the Head Coach at Gallaudet University for 16 years. 1987 to 1991, 1992 to 1996, 1999 to 2007. Selected Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year twice druing his career.

At the International level as an Assistant Coach for the 1997 Deaf USA Basketball Team
The team won the gold medal in the Deaf Olympics in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Head Coach for the 2001 Deaf USA Basketball Team.
The team won the gold medal in the Deaf Olympics in Rome, Italy.
Head Coach for the 2002 Deaf USA Basketball Team.
The team won the silver medal in the Deaf World Championship in Athens, Greece.

Jim has been married for 17 years (Debby) and has two sons, Stephen and David.

Matt Feldman

Junior Varsity Head Coach
Matt Feldman has been a teacher of mathematics at St. John's for 7 years. Matt has been an assistant on the Varsity for all of his years and has been the Head Coach on the Freshman team and is currently the Head Coach on the Junior Varsity.
Nick Jones
Varsity Assistant
Nick Jones, 2003 St. John's grad, joins the Cadets this season. Nick graduated from Hamilton College, where he scored over 1,400 points.
Charlie Tarone
Varsity Assistant
Charlie Tarone, a 2002 graduate from The Heights School and a 2006 graduate from Loyola, MD. Charlie joins the Cadets this season after serving as a graduate assistant last season for Greyhounds of Loyola.
Jennifer Pelletier
Varsity Assistant
Jennifer Pelletier is an English teacher at St. John's. She serves as the Acadaemic Advisor for the Varsity. She has been with the program for the past three years.

Ryan Abramowitz is in his first year with the Cadets as an assistant coach on the Junior Varisty and Varsity teams.
Justin Molloy
Freshman Head Coach
Justin Molloy is in his first year with the Cadets as the head coach on the Junior Varsity. Justin is also an assistant coach with the Varsity Football team. He graduated from
St. John's in 1994.
Robert Koebke
Freshman Assistant
Robert Koebke is in his first year with the Cadets as an assistant coach on the Freshman team. Robert is the father of Robert Koebke, 06' and Erik Koebke, 2010'.
