What should you do when your child is injured?

The coaches at St. John's have been instructed to contact the ATC when an injury occurs on or off campus. However, due to certain circumstances (i.e. away events, arrival after hours) an injured athlete may not be able to follow up with the athletic trainer right away. So let's explore the options:

  1. The ATC will attend to the student-athlete if the injury occurs during normal business hours (please see Hours of Operation).
  2. If the injury is not serious and does not require immediate attention, you may wait until the following school day to follow up with the athletic trainer.
  3. If the injury is serious (i.e. very painful, swelling increases, your child becomes nauseous, vomits or loses consciousness after a head injury) you may need to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest emergency room. You then must have your child see the athletic trainer as soon as possible to report the injury. Please acquire an exact written medical diagnosis from the physician. This will be needed for documentation purposes at school and will also help the athletic trainer understand how to treat the injury properly.
