| Mrs. Eileen O’Toole, Director of the Benilde Program at SJC, holds an M.A. in special education and a certificate in school psychology from Catholic University. Before joining the SJC faculty in fall ‘06, she worked for several years as a school psychologist at a special education high school in Washington, D.C. Ms. O’Toole brings to SJC more than 20 years’ experience in special education assessment, mental health counseling, and curriculum and instruction. Her professional interests include learning styles, emotional intelligence, and students’ transition from high school into college.
Br. Alan Flood has worked with our program since its inception. He has been available for additional tutoring in the areas of Science and Mathematics. A Christian brother, Br. Alan is a former St. John’s student, and also taught chemistry here for many years. His individual tutoring in these two areas has been an important component in the success of many students. Mr. Rashod Gillespie, who joins us this year, comes from DCPS. He majored in Special Education and minored in Child Development Studies at Glenville State College where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree. In addition to his work at SJC, Rashod also volunteers for Special Olympics. Mrs. Allyson Toronto, who has been here since 1999, has been integral to the success of the Benilde Program. She teaches the freshmen Benilde students. She has received training in the Landmark College notebook system, and has developed that as part of our curriculum. Her work has led other faculty members to use these strategies with all students, not just students enrolled in our program. Mrs. Toronto has a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education, an M. Ed. In special Education (concentration in Learning Disabilities), and is currently working on her Ph. D. in Special Education-Learning Disabilities and Mathematics at the Secondary Level. |
