Students are enrolled in one credited class per year while participating in the JROTC program. In addition to regular classroom instruction, students may also participate in challenging and fun activities throughout the year. Cadets participate in regional and national competitions as members of the Raiders, Drill and Marksmanship teams and the Color Guard. In addition, cadets may join the Regimental Band, and a limited number of cadets may attend an adventure-oriented summer camp. One of the highlights of the year is the annual Regimental Ball. These activities are limited to JROTC cadets only, and are not open to the remainder of the student body. As a member of the St. John’s JROTC, students have the opportunity to participate in events around the Washington metropolitan area. Recently, JROTC students have participated in the 55th Inaugural Ceremony, National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetary. Each year, the JROTC unit marches on the field prior to the annual football game between St. John’s and Gonzaga.

The basic JROTC uniform, which is issued free to cadets by the U.S. Army, is the daily school uniform. A refundable deposit is required to replace items lost or damaged through neglect. As cadets outgrow their uniforms, replacements are provided free of charge. A few uniform items are not issued but must be purchased by cadets. St. John’s is very proud of its JROTC tradition. The JROTC program consistently earns high marks and ratings at competitions and the annual federal inspection in May. To be a part of the St. John’s JROTC is to be part of a honored tradition that leads to great success and an unforgettable high school experience.

JROTC Program
The St. John’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is one of the 100 original programs established by the U.S. Congress in 1915. Since its inception over 90 years ago, the mission of the St. John’s JROTC program has been to motivate students to become better citizens with the goals of developing leadership, citizenship, self-confidence and discipline.
