860 Introduction to Dance Grade 9 1 Credit
This course is for the beginning student who has a serious interest in Dance. Emphasis is placed upon development of the skills in strength, control, and rhythm. Students should be able to create their own original combinations and forms. The developmental process will prepare students for advanced study in various forms in the history of Dance. Students are required to have ballet shoes and jazz shoes, specifications will be given by the teacher.
861 Dance 1 Grade 10 1 Credit
This course includes the study of various dance styles. The first semester will primarily explore Ballet and contemporary dance styles. The second semester will explore Jazz. Both semesters will continue studies of dance history, improvisation, and choreography. Students will have the opportunity to produce and perform their own work in addition to the choreography studied in class. Students enrolling in this course must be prepared for some weekend performances, approximately two weekends per semester. Students are required to have ballet shoes and jazz shoes, specifications will be given by the teacher. PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of Introduction to Dance or department approval.
