CALLED TO SERVE: CHRISTIAN SERVICE AT

ST JOHN'S

Of course, love is a choice: it is directed not at millions but at precisely this person. But precisely iin this choice, in this one person, reality as a whole appears in a new light to me.- Benedict XVI

St. John's College High School Service Requirements

Information for Freshmen is available below at the link, "Freshman Information".

Sophomores must complete 20 hours doing direct service within their worship community (to or through that community). When a worship community is not a possibility, the student should do their service to and through St. John's (which functions as their "worship community").

Juniors must complete 40 hours directly serving the "poor or marginalized" of our community. All of the hours must be completed at the same non-profit. For questions or ideas, please see the link marked "Service Opportunities". You might also use google or the website volunteermatch.org as a place to start looking!

Seniors must complete 20 hours of direct service to their community. The goal being that by senior year, it is hopeful that the student has found a cause or an organization they feel strongly about and would like to continue serving.

Upperclassmen service projects completed during the school year will be due to the student's Religion teacher shortly after Spring Break.

If you have further questions, or you don't find the information you're looking for in these pages, please call, e-mail, or stop by to see Mrs. Russell. 202 363 2316 x.1022, mrussell@stjohns-chs.org, RM 201A.
