1.2.1 AUDITION POLICY STATEMENT
- Auditions for St. John's Theatre productions are open to any St. John's student who meets both the academic and disciplinary standards of St. John's College High School or Middle School at the time and/of the audition or the time of the production.
- At its own discretion and with the permission of the school administration, the staff of St. John's Theatre may audition guests artists for special roles in a production.
- All Auditions are closed. No one other than Theatre staff and the auditioners are permitted in the room.
- At its discretion, the staff may cast students in any production that have not gone through the normal audition and callback process.
1.2.2 AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT
- All auditions will be announced at least one week prior to the audition date.
1.2.3 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
- 1.2.3.A Resumes
- All students auditioning for any Theatre production are required to present the Production Stage Manager with a personal resume.

- 1.2.3.B Attire
- All students interested in auditioning for the cast in any production, should wear comfortable lose clothing. School uniforms may not be worn to any audition.
- 1.2.3.C Nonmusical Audition Requirements
- All auditioners should prepare a short reading of no more than 2 minutes.
- 1.2.3.D Musical Audition Requirements
- Musical auditions are comprised of the following parts: the prepared song, the vocal range/pitch test, the dance routine, and the script reading. The staff may or may not elect to augment the audition process as they see fit based on the needs of any particular production.
- All auditoners should prepare a short musical piece of roughly 16 measures (a verse and a chorus).
- All auditioners should bring two (2) copies of the music with them to the auditions. One copy of the music is to be handed in with the auditioners resume. The other copy is to be given to the audition pianist.
- The following musical pieces may not to be used at auditions: Happy Birthday, Mary Had A Little Lamb, Row, Row, Row, Your Boat, Scarlet & Gray (The School Song).
- All auditioners should dress in a manner appropriate for a dance rehearsal: lose fitting clothing and flat, hard soled shoes.
- The following types of clothing should not be worn to a dance audition: any piece of the school uniform, jeans, tennis shoes, boots, or sandals.
- It is recommended that the auditioner prepare a musical selection within their vocal range.
- The auditioner should prepare a piece from the music that best displays their vocal range.
1.2.4 CALLBACKS / CASTING
- Auditioners who have been called back and/or cast will be notified by a call sheet on the St. John's Theatre Bulletin Board, located in the Activity hallway outside the Cadet Room and Auditorium. All auditioners should initial both the callback sheet and the cast list to indicate they except the callback or role.
- Being cast in a role is not dependent upon being present at either the audition or the callbacks.
1.2.5 READ-THROUGHS
- 1.2.5.A Supply Requirements
- All students who have been cast in a Theatre production are required to bring the following items to the first read-through: a pencil, a notebook, a binder with loose leaf paper, a complete list of all commitments from the read-through and the final day of strike, and a printout of St. John's Theatre Handbook from the Theatre web pages.
