What's New At St. John's Theatre?

St. John's Theatre

Fall Production, Number The Stars To Educate Middle
& Senior High School Students In The Holocaust.

During the German occupation of Denmark in World War II, the Nazis closed down Jewish owned businesses and began to round up the Jews for relocation to concentration camps and the "final solution". Danish freedom fighters of all ages risked everything in daring, hurried rescue attempts of the entire Jewish population. In this stirring play, young Annemarie and Kristi Johansen face soliders, interogations, fierce dogs, personal danger, the loss of loved ones and their own fears as they try to help their freind Ellen Rosen escape across the ocean to Sweden and safety. Courage, faith, ingenuity, and even their fledgling acting skills eventually eventually win the day.

All the drama, pathos, adventure, terror and humor that have madeLois Lowry's Number the Stars a National Bestseller (and winner of the Newbery Award and the American Library Association Book of the Year Award), come to life in this powerful adaptation.

St. John's Theatre is proud to present this very special play as the fall production in their 2000 - 2001 theatrical season. Working under the guidelines established by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Theatre will present Number The Stars as part of an educational package for studing about the Holocaust for both St. John's Theatre students and middle school students from the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Washington.
