THE ODD COUPLE
The Female Version

STORY SYNOPSIS

A remake of Neil Simon's long-running Broadway comedy, The Odd Couple centers around two divorced woman who live together, but can't stand each other's habits.

Many people may recall the popular television show of the same name, based on the original male version of the Broadway play. The Broadway cast starred Walter Matthau and Art Carney as Oscar Madison and Felix Unger. The film version was headed by Matthau and Jack Lemmon (of "The Grumpy Old Men" movies). The television cast featured Jack Klugman (who had eventually replaced Matthau on Broadway) and Tony Randall, who in turn have been featured in the lead roles in a Broadway revival and in London's West End.

In the mid 70s, an all African-American version of the television show (using the same set design and scripts from the Matthau/Lemmon seris) was made starring Ron Glass of "Barnaby Miller" fame and Demond Wilson, the son from "Sanford and Son". Finally, Simon himself updated the script in the mid '80s to an all female version starring Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers in the Madison/Unger roles.
