Constitution and By-Laws
St. John's Theatre
Article I - Name
The name of this organization will be The St. John's Theatre Organization.
Article II - Location
The location of the St. John's Theatre Organization (SJTO) shall be St. John's College High School, 2607 Military Road, NW, Washington, DC 20015.
Article III - Purpose
The purpose of the SJTO is to introduce St. John's students to the various aspects of theater, to build friendships, to develope self-confidence, and to support production of St. John's Theatre.
Article IV - Membership
Section IV.1
Membership in the SJTO is open to any St. John's student who expresses an interest in St. John's Theatre and is activily involved in at least one Theatre production a year.
Section IV.2
The general membership of the SJTO is comprised of all those students who worked activly on either of the last two Theatre productions.
Article V - Governance
Section V.1
There shall be a governing body of five Board members (hereafter refered to as "the Board") who shall oversee the running of the SJTO.
Section V.2
Four of these Board members shall be elected from the general membership of the SJTO: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The fifth Board position, the standing Production Stage Manager of St. John's Theatre.
Section V.3.1
The Impeachment of a Board member is at follows:
Step 1: A SJTO member (this included Board members) requests impeachment proceedings against a particular Board member and petitions his or her case to the Board.
Step2: The Board (minues the member "under petition") votes on the petition. A majority of the Board must vote in favor of the proceedings in order for them to carry. Otherwise the petition is denied. In order to overide the Board's denial of an impeachment hearing, a petition favored in signature by 80% of the general membership imust be presented to the Moderator of the SJTO within 30 days of the Board's denial.
Step 3: If the impeachement is passed, an impeachement hearing before the general membership is held at a time and place approved by the Moderator of the SJTO, who serves as the adjudicator of the hearing. 50% of the general membership must be present in order to hold an impeachment hearing. The hearing procedures are as follows:
- Prosecuting SJTO Board member makes case before the general membership.
- Defense (as approved by the Defendant and the Moderator) makes his or her case. The Defendant may not act as his or her own Defense.
- Prosecution's rebuttle.
- Defense's rebuttle.
- Prosection's closing remarks.
- Defense's closing remarks.
- A vote of the general membersip. A majority vote of two-thirds of the members present must vote in approval in order for the impeachment motion to carry.
Section V.3.2 If a Board member becomes inactive, whether through impeadchment, academic in eligibility, or retirement, the President shall appoint a replacement from the general membership to complete the term of office of the inactive member, with the advice and consent of the Board.
Article VI - Treasury
Section VI.1.1
The treasury will consist of funds raised by the SJTO. No funds from Theatre shall be allocated to the SJTO Treasury.
Section VI.1.2
All expendatures of SJTO funds must be approved in advance by a simple majority of the Board before they may be used.
Section VI.2
All monies left in the Treasury at the end of the academic year convey to the following year.
Section VI.3.1
There will be a Presidental Discretionary Fund (PDF) of no more than $50.00 at any one time. Monies from the PDF may not be spent by the President without permission from the Moderator.
Section VI.3.21
Once any amount of money is spent from the PDF, the Board must approve the expenditure of the same.
Section VI.3.22
If the expenditure is not approved, the President is responsible for the amount spent.
Section VI.3.23
Once the expenditure of monies from the PDF is approved, the fund remains at it's diminished state until the Board approves the restoration of the fund to the original amount.
Section VI.3.24
The PDF is, as is all other Treasury monies, the property of the SJTO and is controlled by the Board. The Board may remove or restore the fund as it sees fit.
Article VII - Board Job Descriptions
Section VII.1 - President
- Calls all meeting of the SJTO
- Represents the SJTO to the public.
- Fills vacant Board positions with the advicxe and consent of the rest of the Board.
- Fills the position of House Manager for the Theatre.
Section VII.2 - Vice-President
- Arranges the Annual Theatre Mass & Pot-Luck Supper
- Fills in for the President in the event of his or her appsense.
Section VII.3 - Secretary
- Maintains the official List of Membership.
- Maintains the Constitution, by adding, changing , or deleting sections in accordance to Board votes.
- Is responsible for compiling and maintaining a calendar of the theatrical productions of the other Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Washington.
Section VII.4 - Treasurer
- Is respsible for the management of all SJTO funds.
- Presents a expenditure statement at the close of the year to the Board.
- Is resposible for the ordering of show t-shirts and other promotional material for each production in conjunction with the Theatre Producer.
Section VII.5 - Production Stage Manager
- Represent the staff of the Theatre to the SJTO.
- Conducts all SJTO elections.
